FALLS CHURCH, Va. BAE Systems has added to its unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) portfolio by revealing the new Riptide UUV-12.

According to BAE Systems, the 12” diameter vehicle is the company’s entry into the medium UUV market – joining three small UUV variants – and marks the first new vehicle since last year’s acquisition of Riptide Autonomous Solutions.

The company claims that the Riptide UUV-12 is designed to be adapted to meet a variety of mission needs, including those that require larger payloads with higher power consumptions.

When integrated with the company’s mission system payloads, it is intended to deliver critical capabilities including combinations of Radio Frequency (RF) signal collection, RF electronic warfare, active acoustics, acoustic Identification Friend or Foe, acoustic and RF communications, mission autonomy, and navigation.

Other key Riptide UUV-12 features include agnostic, modular system design intended to enable simple modification and customization, high-efficiency electronics architecture, low-noise propulsion system, and native integration with sensors and technology.
