Lockheed Martin to build full-scale prototype of cislunar habitat
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. NASA recently awarded Lockheed Martin a Phase II contract to build a prototype of a cislunar --commonly regarded as the deep space between the earth and the moon -- habitat at Kennedy Space Center. Under the Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP) habitat study contract, the prototype will integrate evolving technologies that will eventually be used in cislunar orbit to keep astronauts safe while onboard and operate the spacecraft autonomously when unoccupied.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded a spot to General Electric on a potential $409 million contract aimed at research and development on thermal, power, and controls systems for aircraft engines and airframes, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Navy fires first Tomahawk cruise missiles from new submarine payload tubes
TUCSON, Ariz. The U.S. Navy has test-fired two Tomahawk cruise missiles from new submarine payload tubes on the Virginia-class sub USS North Dakota (SSN-784), reports Raytheon, the maker of the Tomahawk missile. The tests -- run recently in the Gulf of Mexico near Florida -- demonstrated the submarine's ability to load, carry, and vertically launch Tomahawk missiles from the new Block III Virginia Payload Tube.

German forces to receive Rohde & Schwarz's software-defined radio systems
MUNICH. The German Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) selected Rohde & Schwarz to equip an initial 50 command vehicles with the company's joint radio system, also known as SVFuA. The SVFuA is an advance measure in the “Mobile Tactical Communications” (MoTaKo) program for digitizing tactical communications within the German armed forces.
