X-ES releases Freescale QorIQ-based 6U OpenVPX processor module
MIDDLETON, WI. Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) has released a 6U OpenVPX processor module based on Freescale QorIQ T4240/T4160 Systems on Chip (SoCs), the XCalibur1840. The XCalibur1840’s Power Architecture e6500-based processors include 1.8 GHz dual-threaded cores and the AltiVec Single-Instruction, Multiple-Data (SIMD) engine for high-performance control and data plane processing tasks.
The XCalibur1840 is available in either conduction-cooled or air-cooled variants, supporting 0.8” or 1.0” pitch Two Level Maintenance (2LM) configurations. I/O interfaces on the OpenVPX module include 16 PCI Express Gen2 lanes, 4 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interfaces, and 10 GbE ports on the front panel or backplane. The processor module also supports two PMC or XMC cards for additional expansion.
XCalibur1840 modules configured with the T4240 SoC are equipped with 12 dual-threaded physical cores or up to 24 virtual cores, while lower power T4160-based modules provide 8 dual-threaded physical cores or up to 16 virtual cores. The AltiVec engine of the T4240/T4160 SoCs provides 172 GFLOPS of vector processing capability, as well as compatibility with existing AltiVec software libraries.
