SYRACUSE, N.Y. Romania officials purchased two TPS-77 radars under a contract agreement with Lockheed Martin. The radars will include Digital Array Row Transceivers (DART), which help to save energy and improves performance of the radars, officials say.

The TPS-77 uses Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, allowing the high-power amplifiers to consume less power. Work on the TPS-77 radars will be performed in Syracuse, N.Y. Since 1995, Romania and Lockheed Martin have been in partnership that includes more than two dozen ground-based radars.
