U.S. Navy DMR radios to receive improved HF communications via General Dynamics

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. U.S. Navy officials modified an existing contract with General Dynamics Mission Systems to deliver improved high-frequency (HF) communications for the Navy's four-channel, AN/USC-61(C) Digital Modular Radios (DMR).

Under contract, engineers will provide the 3G High-frequency 3rd Generation Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) for the DMR radios. Officials say the ALE increases transmission rates from radio to radio by 24 percent, while also reducing static and other noises.

Paul Parent, vice president of General Dynamics Mission Systems, states, DMR is an "alternative to satellite communications in locations where satellite connectivity or capacity is limited or unavailable."
