U.S. Navy demonstrates Harpoon Block II+ missile

POINT MUGU SEA TEST RANGE, Calif. The Navy completed a flight test of the new Harpoon Block II+ missile on January 22 from its Point Mugu Sea Test Range, off the coast of Ventura County, California.
The test, say Navy officials, demonstrated the missile’s ability to talk with the newest F/A-18’s software upgrade as the interface becomes operational on the F/A-18 Super Hornet system.
The Harpoon Block II+ upgrade was designed to provide the Navy with new GPS guidance kits, reliability and survivability of the weapon, a new data link interface that enables in-flight updates, improved target selectivity, an abort option, and enhanced resistance to electronic countermeasures. The updated missile can be launched from various types of air and surface platforms.
The Navy plans to deploy the enhanced missile in late fiscal 2018.
