U.S. Army tasks SNC to develop MEDHUB system

SPARKS, Nev. U.S. Army officials selected Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) to develop develop the capability to capture and store critical patient status and treatment information for up to six patients on a single device, and communicate the information securely from the point-of-injury and throughout transport to the receiving medical treatment facility.
The Medical Hands-Free Unified Broadcast (MEDHUB) system aims to automate and give the medic a hands-free capability in order to shift the focus to the patient while improving situational awareness at the receiving medical treatment facility, officials explain. Early Army user assessment studies of the system’s proof of concept have validated its potential for significantly improving response times of litter teams, clinical specialists, and medical supply support to incoming patients. In addition, there was a significant increase in accuracy of electronic patient care reports.
SNC will leverage its eHealth and Remote Monitoring solution that integrates FDA-certified sensors that capture patient vitals and patient treatment information over a secure, wireless connection. The medical data is then stored and forwarded over the fielded Joint Battle Command Platform to provide incoming patient situational awareness at the receiving medical treatment facility via a patient status portal. Designed as carry-on equipment for the UH-60L Blackhawk MEDEVAC Platform, the system will be interoperable with the Army’s existing Medical Equipment Package.
The MEDHUB First Article System contract is with the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity within U.S. Army Medical Research Materiel Command. Work to further develop the MEDHUB system will be completed at SNC’s Sparks, Nevada facility.
