TE introduces new lightweight EMI shields for mil/aero applications

HARRISBURG, PA. TE Connectivity has announced the company’s new Lightweight Composite EMI Shields (LCES), which are 40 percent lighter than standard aluminum. The shields have been designed for military, aerospace, radar, RF, and satcom applications.

The EMI shields are made of carbon-reinforced composite with electroplating, which offers the same strength as standard aluminum shields but at a lighter weight. As well as being more cost-effective, the conductive composites provide enhanced EMI absorption over metal EMI shields, which do not provide signal attenuation and normally require a separate EMI absorber.

TE’s EMI shields have been tested to IEEE 299 Standard Method for Measuring the Effectiveness of Electromagnetic Shielding Enclosures.
