Sonar system to be designed for smaller naval ships and unmanned platforms

SINGAPORE. In a collaboration agreement between Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions’ INDAL business unit and GeoSpectrum Technologies, engineers will design a sonar system for smaller surface ship and unmanned surface vehicle (USV) markets.

The Towed Reelable Active Passive Sonar (TRAPS) system will deliver antisubmarine warfare (ASW) solutions to the undersea warfare. It will be a towed active/passive sonar system that will enable smaller naval ships to perform ASW operations. It has a vertical active source combined with a passive towed array – all handled “in-line” winch system.

Officials announced this collaboration at the Undersea Defence Technology show in Asia.
