ORCHARD PARK, New York. Engineers at Cobham Mission Systems released a smart, power management pure air compressor system for weapons deployment in military aircraft. Cobham officials announced the new system, dubbed SUREPAC at Air Warfare Symposium.

The compressor system that dynamically manages power to enable high reliability and efficiency in weapons ejection and other applications that need high pressure, pure air generation. Cobham officials say the system's proprietary algorithm contained within the Smart Electronic Control Unit (SmartECUTM) enables reduced life cycle and maintenance costs.

The SmartECU monitors actual compressor usage and maximizes filter life by ensuring they are changed only when needed. Via precise variable control of the compressor speed, the system draws less power and runs cooler. SUREPAC is upgradeable to 270 VDC power requirements with a simple swap out of the SmartECU.

Cobham high performance compressor technology can be found in products used in pneumatically actuated weapons carriage and release systems and other applications including the company's electronics cooling and personal microclimate cooling systems.
