Shipboard interrogator sets for Aegis combat ships contracted to Northrop Grumman

U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has inked an $11.5 million follow-on production contract with Northrop Grumman for fabrication, testing, and delivery of AN/UPX-24(V) interrogator sets. The firm-fixed-price contract will provide five open-architecture AN/UPX-24(V) processor sets to Aegis combat ships to enhance the vessels’ situational awareness and threat-detection capabilities.
The Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) processor sets, which receive transponder replies and issue target reports to the Navy ships’ Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence (C4I) systems, are comprised of a central processor controller, up to 22 control indicators, and a control monitor, and will be used to respond to priority target identification requests and quickly identify friendly aircraft.
Primarily a shipboard centralized identification system, deliveries of the AN/UPX-24(V) interrogator sets are scheduled in 1Q2014.
