HIGH WYCOMBE, United Kingdom. A new Multi-Platform Mission Computer (MPMC) for space, weight and power (SWaP)-constrained avionics and vetronics and avionics applications was announced by Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS).

The Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) MPMC-9105 VMC (Versatile Mission Computer) has a compact and lightweight small form factor designed for use on Unmanned Aerial vehicles (UAVs), helicopters and ground vehicles. The rugged subsystem is housed in an environmentally sealed enclosure -- Width: 278 mm x Depth: 230 mm x Height: 85 mm – that weighs 6.5 Kg and is configured with two XMC mezzanine modules and four Solid State Drives.

The MPMC-9105 VMC meets or surpasses the MIL-STD-810F Test Method Standard for Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests, and for EMI as per MIL-STD-461 Requirements for the Control of EMI Characteristics of Subsystems. The device will meet a range of environmental tests such as temperature, altitude, shock, vibration, fluid susceptibility, voltage spikes, and electrostatic discharge. The circuit cards installed in the chassis are isolated from external environmental conditions such as dust, humidity, and sand.

Its features include a third Generation Intel Core i7 mobile processor -- Quad Core 2.1GHz and Dual Core 1.7GHz; as much as 16GB DDR3 with ECC; 8 GB Flash Storage; as many as four Solid State Drives (SSD) for data storage; 45-150 Watts typical power; ITAR-free; and support for Linux and Windows 7.

The MPMC-9105 VMC operates in external temperatures as hot as 71°C. Optimal system cooling is ensured via direct thermal transfer between devices and the system enclosure. Heat is dissipated via the enclosure’s external fins and conduction through the base. Variants are available without fins for purely conduction-cooled applications. System integrators cn implement a processing system that requires no fans, vehicle supplied liquid, air, or other demands from its deployed platform.

Pricing for the MPMC-9105 begins at less than $10,000 in quantity. For more information, visit www.cwcdefense.com.
