ST. ASAPH, Wales. Qioptic has announced that Britain's Defense Ministry awarded it a contract worth $100 million for STAS (Surveillance and Target Acquisition ? Support). The contract has options for an additional five years of support, which would increase the contract by a further $84 million.

The STAS award will allow Qioptic -- a division of Excelitas Technologies (Waltham, Mass.) -- to provide support for surveillance and targeting equipment to the U.K. armed forces over the next six years and will also ensure that vital night-vision equipment is available to British armed forces personnel around the globe.

Qioptic offers night-vision and thermal weapon-aiming and target-acquisition sights for combat platforms including individual assault weapons, light support weapons, crew-served weapons, antitank/antimateriel weapons, and specialized sniper applications.
