Partnership to deliver 1553 technology on FPGA-based ComExpress modules
SAN DIEGO. Officials at Sealevel Systems, Inc. and Sital Technology LTD, joined hands to manufacture and deliver MIL-STD-1553 IP cores, board-level products, and components as well as custom computer designs for avionics and military applications. The companies made the announcement at the AFCEA West show in San Diego this week.
“Sital’s expertise in flexible, reliable FPGA based MIL-STD-1553 technology complements Sealevel’s existing standard I/O product offering,” says Ben O’Hanlan, Sealevel president.
Enabling 1553 technology on an FPGA enables the solution to be used on multiple aircraft, says Duli Yariv, Sital’s VP of Marketing. "It is one part number for every aircraft. It can also measure the health of bus wiring, cutting down on maintenance cost and aircraft downtime."
MIL-STD 1553 is still a strong, growing market because the requirements for providing data from the plane to the pilot has essentially not changed, Yariv continues. The only resson to increase bandwidth in these applications is to send video data, he adds.
Sital's 1553-based devices are used across Israel's air force fleet and are on a number of U.S. platforms. Commercial platforms also are turning toward 1553. Airbus recently changed their wins from metal to a composite material, which is not shielded, creating excess noise on the databus so they are switching to 1553 because it is more robust than ARINC 429, Yariv says.
Sital also has experience with iARINC, CAN and less common protocols such as H009, WB194, and French DigiBus. will sell the Sital 1553-based PCIe card and is looking to offer their 153 solution on a Com Express product.
