WASHINGTON. The U.S. Army selected General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI) for a full-rate production contract for 19 Improved Gray Eagle (IGE) Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The announcement was made at the annual AUSA show this year.

“IGE provides better endurance, additional payload capacity, easier maintenance, and extended life cycle of critical components,” says Linden Blue, CEO, GA-ASI.

The IGE was developed on Internal Research and Development (IRAD) funds and is considered the next generation from the Gray Eagle UAS, according to officials. It performs ISR collection and close air support for ground forces and has a variety of sensors and weapons payloads.

The UAS are expected to be delivered by September 2018.
