SYDNEY, Australia. Northrop Grumman Integrated Defence Services (IDS), a fully-owned Australian subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corp. (Falls Church, Va.) has signed an agreement with Lufthansa Technik to support the Royal Australian Air Force?s fleet of KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft. Northrop Grumman IDS is the prime contractor for MRTT Through-Life Support (TLS).

Under the program, both defense contractors will provide the Australian armed forces with wider access to a global inventory network, administer landing-gear services, and aim to reduce repair times for the aircraft fleet. The agreement -- while focusing on the KC-30A -- will also facilitate general maintenance for the Australian air force's other aircraft types.

The KC-30A, a modified Airbus A330 airliner built for air-to-air refueling operations and strategic airlifts, is capable of transferring over 100 tons of fuel to fighter aircraft and other airlifters.
