Navy tasks QinetiQ to demo sidescan sonar technology

WALTHAM, Mass. Officials at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division (NSWC PCD), selected QinetiQ North America (QNA) to demonstrate advanced, low power, sidescan sonar technology under a contract that will leverage the company's DOLPHIN technology.
Under contract, engineers will leverage the technology to demonstrate full swath coverage in eliminating the Nadir (gap) that exists with current sidescan sonar systems. DOLPHIN is a full duplex, underwater acoustic technology that makes it possible for collaborative and interoperable, continuous sonar signals by enabling Simultaneous Transmit and Receive (STAR) acoustic sonar operations.
