NATO orders additional countermeasure systems for transport fleet

HAIFA, Israel. Elbit Systems Ltd. has won a follow-on $46 million contract to supply additional J-Music Direct Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection systems to NATO for its Airbus A330 Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF) Program. NATO will also install Elbit's Infra-Red-based Passive Airborne Warning Systems (PAWS IR). Work on the contract will be performed over a four-year period.
According to company documents, J-Music is an advanced DIRCM system that is optimized to protect large aircraft, including transports, tankers, special-mission platforms, VIP jets, and the like. Elbit engineered J-Music to be lightweight, compact, and easily installed on a broad range of aircraft types in single- or multi-turret configurations.
J-Music and similar Elbit systems enable aircraft to deploy rapid response and defense maneuvers against multiple and simultaneous missile threats.
Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems' ISTAR Division,stated: "This follow-on contract that extends the supply of J-Music DIRCM and PAWS IR missile warning systems to NATO's MMF program attests to Elbit Systems' technological and operational competitive advantage in addressing the intensifying threat of shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles."
