SANTA MARIA, CA. Quintron Systems, Inc. has been chosen to provide NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) with a technology update to expand to IP-based mission command voice featuring a new user station design.

This update will replace the existing, older Digital Integrated Communications Electronic System (DICES) stations at the DFRC, which prevents expensive reconfigurations of the mission control room consoles. The use of three touch-screen panels will provide significant upgrades to user features in the DICES Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system architecture, while inclusion of circuitry and connectors will also allow DRFC to reuse the existing legacy headsets.

David Wilhite, president and chief operating officer at Quintron, says of the update: “Quintron has a long-standing and very successful partnership with Dryden, going back to actual hands-on site technical support starting in 1981 and with initial installation of a DICES system in 1990, so this selection to move their voice system into the 21st century with DICES VoIP was a welcome announcement. We look forward to continuing our teamwork for many more years to come.”

The first use of the updated DICES VoIP system is planned for Spring 2014.
