Mission-management system, satcom hub for Boeing's USAF contract awarded to Hughes

GERMANTOWN, Md. Broadband satellite provider Hughes Network Systems has won a contract from Boeing to develop mission management, system control, networking, and ground hub capabilities in support of an antijam satellite communications capability for the U.S. Air Force?s Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES) program.

Under the terms of the agreement with Boeing, Hughes will design PTES subsystems to support tactical capabilities in Phase 1 of the USAF Protected Antijam Tactical Satcom (PATS).

The PTES program is intended to provide tactical warfighters with a joint ground platform designed to deliver protected communications services through the Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) satellite constellation and commercial satellites; in the future it will also cover the Department of Defense (DoD) Protected Tactical Satellites running the Protected Tactical Waveform (PTW).

Work on the contract is expected to run through 2025.
