DULLES, Va. Federal Aviation Administration officials selected Raytheon for the final implementation phase of the Standard Terminal Automation System (STARS). The contract is valued at an estimated $135 million.

Engineers will upgrade air traffic control systems at 22 airports by implementing STARS and complete the NextGen terminal automation modernization of every major FAA National Air Space facility by December 2019.

STARS is designed to maintain safety and bring efficiencies to a congested National Air Space by providing terminal automation with a single operational baseline, officials say.
