Dismounted soldier training simulator introduced by Raytheon
ORLANDO, Fla. Raytheon unveiled a new immersive military training product today at I/ITSEC, a modeling, simulation, and training event. The Synthetic Training Environment Soldier Virtual Trainer (STE SVT), uses virtual reality to train squads of soldiers in multiple scenarios while using real and virtual weapons.
According to company officials, the virtual simulator is designed to train dismounted infantry and deliver effective, timely training from any location. Raytheon boasts unmatched realism and a reduced cost and deployment challenge when compared to high-consequence training missions.
The vision for the U.S. Army's STE SVT is to create a common synthetic environment for soldiers to train together from anywhere in the world. The current room-sized simulators will be replaced by portable laptop-powered augmented reality/virtual reality headsets that can be transported to soldiers for use.
