TEMPE, AZ. The U.S. Navy has awarded Comtech EF Data a contract to replace the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) Interface Processor. As part of the $7.5 million agreement, Comtech will develop and produce the Advanced Time Division Multiple Access Interface Processor (ATIP) in place of its legacy predecessor.

The ATIP processor is a Layer 2 Ethernet bridging device that will be implemented on ship, submarine, and shore platforms. ATIP provides transparent bridging between dispersed Internet Protocol (IP) users and connects them through Milstar Medium Data Rate (MDR), Advanced Extremely High Frequency MDR/Extended Data Rate (XDR), or Enhanced Polar XDR links.

The cost-plus-incentive-fee, cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price contract includes options that could increase its value to more than $28 million. Development and production of the ATIP processors will take place in Arizona, and is expected to be completed by April of 2014.
