Communications range for Legacy NTDS devices extended with new Sabtech system
YORBA LINDA, Calif. Sabtech Industries engineers have extended the communications range of its Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS) equipment with a new PowerNet Bridge System. The firmware addition to Sabtech’s PowerNet NTDS to Ethernet Converter builds on this functionality and increases the communications range for legacy equipment beyond maximum MIL-STD-1397C distances.
PowerNet NTDS translates NTDS data into an open architecture format. The PowerNet Bridge reduces the length of NTDS cable that runs between computers, mass storage devices, displays sensors, or weapon systems.
PowerNet can link with existing equipment to enhance investment in NTDS and newer technologies by cutting down on life cycle costs and increasing capability. The new firmware makes the hardware and protocol conversions that enable the legacy equipment to communicate over existing NTDS channels without modification to either end and without awareness that the Bridge is in-between. Taking long haul communications to a network architecture enables designers to more easily implement redundant paths through the network fabric, improving interface survivability.
