ARLINGTON, Va. Defense contractors BAE Systems and Leonardo DRS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer enhanced threat-detection capabilities for use on U.S. Army fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft; the companies will collaborate to develop an advanced infrared (IR)-based threat warning system to meet the evolving operational requirements for Army aircraft survivability.

The collaboration will advance the threat warning techniques and capabilities leveraged from the BAE Systems Common Missile Warning System (CMWS) — the standard missile-warning system that is currently installed on all the Army’s fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft — and the Leonardo DRS IR sensors, which were specifically designed for rotary-wing aircraft.
