Astro Aerospace completes preliminary design review on radar antenna reflector

CARPINTERIA, Calif. Engineers at Astro Aerospace - a Northrop Grumman company - completed a preliminary design review of the AstroMesh radar antenna reflector for the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory manages the NISAR L-band synthetic aperture radar. Officials say it is scheduled to launch in 2021 and will be the first radar imaging satellite to use dual L-Band and S-Band frequencies. Engineers designed NISAR to collect data and observe the earth to help scientist better understand the planet’s processes and changing climate.

NASA and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) are working together on the NISAR program. Officials say, the antenna reflector will now move to detailed design and fabrication.
