Two Portable Flextop Computer Models Incorporate Additional SATA HDDs for Enhanced Data Throughput Rates and Storage
For immediate release, June 14 2007, NextComputing, high performance portable computer manufacturers, announce the incorporation of additional 160GB/7200 RPM SATA drives on two of their flextop computer models, the NextDimension Evo and Pro series. Both models utilize the benefits of Seagate Technology's Momentus 7200.2 HDDs to maximize storage and throughput in the small, mobile flextop chassis.
The NextDimension Evo series now incorporates up to (16) internal hard drives; (10) in the user-accessible bay, (4) in a fixed location, and (2) quick-time removable drives. The Pro series can now support up to (6) drives in the user-accessible expansion bay as well as (2) quick-time removable drives.
“The number of drives combined with the performance of top of the line AMD and Intel processor cores make these systems, particularly the Evo, ideal for applications requiring high-throughput data streaming, such as portable studios, sniffers, traffic generators, or data recorders” explains Bob Labadini, President and CTO, NextComputing.
The company has generated much interest in the datacom/telecom industries from large companies wishing to OEM the system as a data recording appliance or sniffer. Combined with sophisticated PCI cards used in the industry, it is a perfect all in one solution for service providers of many types to offer to their end users.
The NextDimension Evo models also incorporate up to (4) high performance PCI or PCIe slots. Used in combination with the modular storage architecture of the system, including the (14) 2.5” 7200RPM SATA drives, (2) hot-swappable HDDs, (5) additional 2.5” drives if the NextPak option is added, and support for RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, the NextDimension Evo and Evo HD provide sustained read/write rates comparable to those of much larger, stationary systems.
The Pro series is a smaller version of the Evo, providing up to (6) accessible 2.5” 7200 RPM SATA drives, (2) hot-swappable HDDs, up to (2) high performance PCI or PCIe slots,,and support for the NextPak providing up to (5) additional drives. The same top of the line AMD and Intel processors are available on this model. For data streaming applications with lesser throughput requirements and a need for lightweight portability, the Pro is an affordable option.
NextComputing will continue to provide the latest HDD innovations from Seagate Technology to make high throughput data streaming portable.
“Seagate is pleased to be working with NextComputing to deliver unprecedented performance for mobile computing,” said Joni Clark, Seagate Product Marketing Manager.
The Pro and Evo models are now even more capable of providing solutions for NextComputing's targeted vertical industries such as Telecom/Datacom and Broadcasting. As a portable sniffer or traffic generator, the Evo enables rapid response rates for high speed data monitoring applications. The Evo HD is ideal as a portable production studio for the broadcast industry. NextComputing intends to stay close to trends within these two industries as the NextDimension line up continues to evolve.
