NUREMBERG, Germany. Officials at LDRA created fixed price services group for avionics DO-178B/C and DO-254 certification. The new LDRA division -- LDRA Certification Services (LCS) -- was announced this week at the Embedded World show in Nuremberg, Germany.

The division is made up of includes Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Designated Engineering Representatives (DER) as well as safety engineering experts.

The key point of this offering is the fixed price, because certification costs can skyrocket if not efficiently managed, says Bill StClair, director of U.S. operations for LDRA. “If our customers use our tools and techniques we will not charge them anymore.”

This approach really helps new applicants as they can get completely overwhelmed by the challenges of verifying to DO-178B Level A or B, St. Clair says. “We define the process and take the burden off their shoulders.”

The LCS team will leverage LDRA tool suite as well as other tools to manage avionics certification project requirements. The division’s certification expertise covers DO-178/DO-278, DO-297, DO-254, IEC 62304, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, IEEE 1012:2004, as well as CENELEC EN 50128.

Heading the team is Todd White, a FAA systems and equipment DER, who has Level A authority on all aircraft systems and equipment for software as well as airborne electronic hardware. Working with White is Marty Gasiorowski, a FAA DER specializing in systems, safety, software, and electronic hardware, and safety engineer Dr. Holly Hildreth, who is an expert in a range of U.S. and international standards.
